It may be that a good starting point for you now is to take your time to identify the help you need to support your mental health and wellbeing, at this time.
This page signposts you to a range of help and support options. It is also useful to look at what additional support is offered in your local area as there may be trauma-focused support services available in some areas.
Emotional eating or binge eating Help and support services
If you have developed patterns of emotional eating or binge eating, as a way of comforting yourself, these may be getting in the way of you making changes for healthy and effective weight management.
Accessing support and help to overcome this will help you to learn coping strategies, which may be your priority right now.

GP - You can call or see your local GP who will discuss what support and help you need and refer you as appropriate.
Alcohol and or drug support Help and support services
Other means of self-soothing can include using alcohol or drugs which may be preventing healthy weight loss. Accessing support and help to overcome these behaviours can help you identify and learn coping strategies, which may be your priority.

Call 0808 808 2234 or text DAN to 81066, Dan is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Drinkline - A free, confidential helpline for people who are concerned about their drinking, or someone else's. Call 0300 123 1110 (weekdays 9am–8pm, weekends 11am–4pm).
Alcoholics Anonymous - The helpline is open 24/7 on 0800 9177 650. If you would prefer, you can also email them at help@aamail.org or live chat via their website.

GP - Your GP is often a good place to start for alcohol/drug related problems. They will be able to provide confidential advice and refer you for extra support.
Are you struggling with ongoing mental ill health because of trauma?
If trauma is getting in the way of your ability to function, and you feel is getting in the way of you engaging with healthy weight management support your next steps may be to identify help and support that works for you.

Bereavement counselling - if you have and or are suffering trauma due to a sudden death bereavement counselling may help:

Local Mental Health Services - Contact your GP who can refer you for help and support
Community Mental Health Team - If you have had previous input from your local team, you may have been advised to contact them direct if you need support. You can also speak to your GP if your mental health has got worse, and they will refer you as appropriate.
Local Psychological Therapies Services - This service needs a GP referral so contact your GP first.
