Journey One

Food and drink are an important part of your life, especially your social life.  Time with your family and friends will tend to involve food or drink.  Enjoyment of food is important to you. You and your family may have got into the habit of eating bigger portions, often more than you need leading to weight gain.  As a child you may have been expected to finish everything on your plate and be praised for clearing your plate.

Journey Two

Food and drink are linked to how you feel. You use food or drink to lift you up or fill a gap when you’re bored or stressed or to cheer you up. You may have a weakness for certain comfort foods or snacks that you turn to, even though you know they are not the healthy option.  

Journey Three

You may have had difficult or stressful experiences, particularly during childhood but also at some other point in your life.

This has had a lasting effect on you and eating has been one of the ways you have coped. Like others with similar experiences, you may have had problems with your weight for most of your life, perhaps losing and then regaining quite a lot of weight.

The sort of stressful experiences that might have this affect are violence or abuse at home, family break-up or bereavement or parent with mental health, drug or alcohol problems.

Journey Four

Important things in your life have changed over the past few years and this has meant your weight has crept up. This may be starting a family, a relationship change, or  a change to your working arrangements. This has meant that you are not as active as you once were and your eating habits may also have changed to fit with your current lifestyle.

Weight Maintenance

Weight maintenance is about keeping your weight stable, which means not losing, gaining, or regaining weight. You might notice that your weight naturally fluctuates daily and there may be times when your weight goes up or down. If you are within a healthy weight range, weight maintenance is about finding a balance that helps you stay within that range.
